1.Raw Material

The raw materials of the warp and weft-insertion yarns used in fiberglass geogrids vary according to the needs of the application. For general applications, glass fiber is often used. For some special applications, high-performance fibers such as carbon fiber and aramid can be used. ; Ground tissue yarns generally use finer polyester yarns.

Glass fiber has the advantages of easily available raw materials, high tensile strength, low elongation at break, high elastic modulus, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. It is a commonly used reinforcing material with excellent performance. The main disadvantages of fiberglass are that it is brittle and not wear-resistant. Because glass fiber warp-knitted geogrids made using warp-knitted warp and weft-inserted technology can give full play to the advantages of glass fiber and overcome its shortcomings to a certain extent, this kind of geogrid has been widely used in highway construction. Glass fiber yarn is divided into twisted yarn and untwisted yarn according to whether it is twisted or not. The fiberglass warp-knitted geogrid is generally made of untwisted fiberglass yarn.

Machine: Warp-knitted geogrids are produced with full-width warp and weft-inserted biaxial warp knitting machines. The main producers of such warp knitting machines are the German KarlMayer Textile Machinery Company and the German Liba Textile Machinery Company.

Weaving principle: A full-width biaxial warp knitting machine with warp and weft lining has three yarn systems: warp lining, weft lining and connecting yarn. The yarns of these three systems are all introduced into the looping area, and the movement of the looping mechanism causes The connecting yarns are looped, and the two yarn groups of the warp and weft yarns are bundled together to form a biaxial warp knitted grid. In the biaxial warp knitting grid, the warp and weft inlays are arranged straightly and are not intertwined with each other. Instead, the intersection points of the warp and weft inlays are bundled with fine connecting yarns to form a strong knot.

After the warp-knitted geogrid is woven, it must undergo a coating process before such a geogrid can be used in practice. Direct coating method or dip coating method is commonly used, and coating agents such as polyvinyl chloride coating agent and modified asphalt coating agent are commonly used. PVC coating agents are usually used for warp-knitted geogrids made of synthetic fibers such as polyester and polypropylene, while modified asphalt coating agents are often used for warp-knitted geogrids made of glass fibers.

The main functions of the coating process:

1) Overcome the phenomenon of easy slippage of warp and weft yarns, making the geogrid structure stable and conducive to actual construction.

2) The coating film protects the fibers on its surface to a certain extent, reducing damage to the grating during storage and construction.

3) Increase the corrosion resistance of geogrids, etc.


In order to ensure that the performance of the product meets the needs of the application and to control the quality of the product, the product must be inspected.

The inspection mainly includes the following items:

physical properties;

Areal density (mass per unit area),

Mesh size, width, etc.

Mechanical properties:

Tensile properties, tear resistance, creep properties, etc.
